Keeping DWG file sizes to a minimum will help make it easier to import and work with in SketchUp and SunDAT. We have noticed when importing a DWG into SketchUp, the SketchUp file increases the DWG file size by about 6-7 times. So a 5MB DWG file will increase the SketchUp file to around 30MB. So we suggest you only import the linework you need to work in SunDAT and this can be done by removing unnecessary objects through AutoCAD/Civil3D. Below are suggestion to help reduce the file size in AutoCAD. Delete and Purge: Before doing modifications, recommend saving a copy of the DWG file.

Determine what objects/line work you need for your SunDAT model. For objects you do not need, you can start deleting them. Use the Select Similar tool (right-click on an object and then select “Select Similar”) to select multiple objects that are the same block or lines that are on the same layer. Another way to identify and select unneeded objects is to do a quick select (QSELECT). Use the filtering system to select a type of object and to be on a certain layer.

It is a great tool to select certain objects like text. More information about Quick Select can be found here. While objects may have been deleted, the information is still in the file. Purging your drawing will help remove that information from your drawing. Save the DWG file. Remember to down-save to 2013 format to be able to import into SketchUp.

Intel hd graphics 3000 driver windows 10 64 bit 2017 Check to see if the file size has reduced. Usually, we recommend 5MB or less to import into SketchUp.

Clipping the contours: Clip the topography to the area you only need for the project and remove unnecessary contours lines. You can use your project boundary or if you want to create more of a buffer, offset the project boundary line. Clip the contour lines outside the boundary so that you are left with only the contour lines you need. Reducing the detail of the contours: If the file is still too large, the last option is to reduce the detail of the contour lines.
