Hi Guys, I'm currently in the lookout for a new car and is very interested in the Mazda 3/Axela. 2nd alternative is the bland but reliable corolla. I'm more interested in the Axela (jdm) as opposed to the NZ new one since it's cheaper. Now alot of them are in the 1500 cc variant (engine from mazda 2). Though it's quite good at 115 hp.

I know every car has it's pos and neg (even corolla), my question is what you guys as M3/axela owners have experienced during your ownership? (pos, neg, fuel eco, performance.etc.) Since my budget is max $10 K, i'd be looking at around year 2005, auto, 1.5 Thanks alot beforehand! I have the 2l variant and I love it. I've owned it for a year now, and put 30 000km on its clock. My car is an '08 model (must have been one of the last), and it's great. It costs me $90ish to fill the tank, and I get 550km of town driving out of it.

If I do longer trips, like Hamilton to Wellington, I get around 700km out of a tank. I get it serviced regularly, and I've not needed any 'emergency services' nor have I had any large bills. Thus far, the only downside I can see is that the cost of getting a new key fob is about $500:( My car only came with one key, and the only key hole is on the drivers side -- annoying when it's raining! Mine has a built-in immobilizer. The key has an RFID in it, and the engine will not turn on without a 'white listed' key.

The AC is really good, I use it a reasonable amount. I've never had any issues with it. I like the 'Auto' option, and find it generally manages the car temperature very nicely. I bought my car off an importer, not the Mazda people. Didn't even thing about a second key until much later, sadly. Now I know for next time:) Edit: oh, that's right! The one other tiny thing that irks me is the stereo.

The screen within the car that displays your current settings is part of the stereo unit. And (as of last year) most replacement stereos don't support the extra output or take commands from the steering-wheel stereo controls. So you're stuck with the Mazda stereo or you lose the display. A tiny whinge, as a band-expander & MP3 addon can be added reasonably cheaply. Yea yours is the 2008 version though. I think I read somewhere that the Axela 1.5 in 2004 doesn't have it. I think it should be standard.but who knows, I might get surprised when it comes time to buy one and find one installed (or rfid key!
